Abu Dabbab is one of the most famous dive sites in the Marsa Alam area. If you ever dreamt of diving/swimming with turtles, this is currently the spot where you get higher chances to make your dream come true!
The bay is home to two stunning and well-preserved reefs (north and south), separated by a very wide seagrass meadow. Profusion of colorful fish and formations of soft and hard corals can be observed on the reefs, whereas the seagrass beds feature friendly giant green sea turtles that you can swim with up close. It is also not rare to spot the bizarre looking but completely harmless guitarfish (a shark lookalike) and big eagle rays. There are also superb macro subjects such as the ghost pipefish, the rare thorny seahorse and the delicate hairy pygmy pipehorse. Underwater photographers will be delighted!
The dive site is very easy. It is located in a gently slopping sandy bay with low current and shallow depth, making it suitable even for beginner divers and snorkelers. However, be aware that it can get quite crowded as it is a very popular dive site.
